We want SUN internet and SUN wireless landline in Cebu too

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Bo Chanco wrote in the Philippine Star newspaper a couple weeks ago, "Speaking of cell phone companies, I didn’t realize that Sun is now on the verge of dislodging or have actually dislodged Globe in the postpaid category until I read an article quoting Globe’s new CEO last Monday."

Expressing exasperation about Globe’s market position, Ernest Cu, Globe’s new CEO told Inquirer “Globe’s always number two in everything. Think about where Globe is number one? Even our position in postpaid is now being threatened by Sun.” Cu pointed out incredulously that “they’re supposed to become now the number one postpaid brand and at times, even our main competitor calls us the number three brand, which I kind of resented, actually.”

How come Sun is not trumpeting this achievement? I have never known Mr. John Gokongwei to be the shy type. If this accomplishment is true, it is a strong marketing point to make. "

To follow up further along Chanco's line, why isn't SUN rolling out the infrastructure and making the costly ads pay better by rolling out more landline phone service in Cebu and other major cities and also the very much requested internet service as well?

I hope that James Go, the president of Filipino telecoms group Telecommunications Philippines Inc and Lance Gokongwei & Mr.John Gokongwei, Jr. can also read this as well.

We want SUN internet and wireless landline in Cebu too

We note with pleasure the new offerings in Sun Tel Wireless Landline Plan 499 and the combined wireless landline, free cell phone and unlimited texting and calling Sun to Sun and the Sun Broadband
http://www.suncellular.com.ph/broadband.php but we are very sad these SUN offerings have not come to Metro Cebu yet when SMART and Globe has already added Cebu in their wireless landline and dongle & internet router offers.

Both SMART and Globe have enlisted outside foreign companies to invest with them (Singapore for Globe and Japan for PLDT). SUN should pursue this same angle to enable a faster rollout nationwide!!! We are waiting for it here in Cebu! and I am sure other cities are anxious for it too. Maybe an American firm or Korean firm or Hong Kong telecommunication firm might be interested in being partners.

Cebu Pacific has shown the way to expand even internationally and has done a great job at it and has become the market leader. Why not Sun as well, following the same path being a Robinson corporation?

Cebu is an active investment community being the second largest market in the Philippines and orginal home of the Gokongwei family. Many of the retired foreigners are locating here in Cebu and has many major malls. We hope that a limited rollout in Cebu of your internet and wireless landline will soon be done at least at the major universities and malls here in Cebu as we actively seek such services from Sun. Your advice is welcome.

I also noted that you are making a major push to be the top post paid leader here in the Philippines and one item that might be examined to encourage more to sign up for post paid is the unreasonable rules that make it hard for foreignersor locals to sign up as now some companies are now allowing a simple ID and first month payment to start service. Even when foreigners try to avail of the advance payment, we find that SUN wants to keep half of the deposit even after the contract has ended. The overall submission requirements might need review to allow you to make your goal of being the top post paid subscriber company.

We look forward to advice when we can expect SUN innovations in Cebu.....
